Maarit
Vaga was born in Tampere, Finland to a
Finnish mother and an Estonian
father. Her first public performance was
at the age of five in
Helsinki, Finland which marked the
beginning of an endeavor to connect
people with music through the gift of
song.
Maarit Vaga is the current Finlandia
Foundation National Chapter's
Performer of the Year. She was first
selected as POY in 2002 and was
recently asked to continue until 2005.
Maarit
Vaga is a classically trained soprano
but her repertoire reaches far
beyond the operatic borders.
Specializing in Jean Sibelius' and
Eduard
Tubin's art songs, Ms. Vaga also
entertains audiences with passionate
Finnish Tangos and delightful
arrangements of well-known Finnish and
Estonian folk-songs.
She tours continuously around the United
States and Canada performing
concerts and presenting workshops. |
